NILAI – Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) officially inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Kazan Federal University (KFU), Tatarstan, for a period of five (5) years, with a primary focus on the development and implementation of educational programs, particularly in the field of Islamic banking and finance.

  

Through this strategic partnership, USIM will offer short-term programs, professional certifications, and academic degree programs in Islamic Finance to their collaborating partners. Furthermore, this collaboration will facilitate student exchange opportunities between the two universities, including participation in mobility programs such as the Global Islamic Student Outreach (GISO) program and other international visits.

Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Sharifudin Md Shaarani, the Vice-Chancellor of USIM highlighted USIM’s academic expertise in the areas of halal and Islamic finance and emphasized that this strategic collaboration with higher education institutions in Tatarstan would contribute to the broader development of the Islamic finance sector. This step is expected to have a positive impact and open doors for the USIM community, especially academic staff, to expand their global networks in this field.

The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Sharifuddin Md Shaarani on behalf of USIM and Prof. A. Kh. Gimutdinov, representing the President of the Republic of Tatarstan.

In a separate event, USIM received an official visit from a delegation from the Republic of Tatarstan. The visit took place during a warm ceremony at Tuanku Chancellor Hall, during which USIM had the opportunity to sign a letter of intent with Unified Banking Technologies of Tatarstan.

Among those present at the ceremony were Khairil Azwan Abu Mansor, Chief Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education; Prof. Dr. Mohd Radhi Ibrahim, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) of USIM; Dr. I. G. Khadiullin, Minister of Science and Education of the Republic of Tatarstan; Mr. Aleksei Dobrinskii, Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Malaysia; and the KFU delegation.

 

It’s worth noting that this collaboration follows the official visit of the Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, along with several representatives from local universities to the Kazan 2023 Forum in Tatarstan in May of the previous year.
